Andy Prinz
Andy Prinz, a Swiss music luminary with over 30 years of experience, has left an indelible mark on the global music scene as both a gold and platinum-certified producer and a transformative A&R. His passion for electronic music ignited in the 1980s, sparked by a fascination with synthesizer and sampler innovations. Starting with classical piano, he co-founded the synthpop-industrial band DELAY in 1991, inspired by Depeche Mode and the EBM scene. Their demos "Under The Bridge" and "Pep Pill," albums like Underdogs and An Altered State of Consciousness, and a 1996 German tour established his early reputation. Transitioning to techno and trance, Prinz released DELAY’s final album Winter Paranoia before delivering club hits like And-E & Mac Lane’s "Swallow It Down" (featured on Junior Vasquez’s Twilo Vol.1) and "You Are Virus," alongside works under aliases like Ayion. In 2001, Prinz turned professional, founding Andy Prinz Publishing. As a producer, he crafted gold-certified anthems like DJ Tatana’s "Words," which dominated Swiss charts for 15 weeks, and contributed to her platinum album Superpop (Warner Music), as well as DJ Jaro’s "Turn The Night" for Sony Music. His emotive solo albums Distant Horizon (2008), co-written with talents like Raz Nitzan, and Divergence (2010) solidified his trance legacy. Remixes, including Schiller’s "Lichtermeer" (2013) and Perpetuous Dreamer’s "Future Fun Land," earned acclaim for their atmospheric depth. As Astura, his track "Orion’s Belt" landed on playlists of Tiësto and Armin van Buuren, entering the British Dance Charts via Mondo Records. His publishing discography, spanning over 700 songs, includes releases like "Into The Ocean," "Wide Open / Diversity Of Life," and "Lost Inside The Senses" with Naama Hillman, alongside titles by Bjorn Akesson, Alex Price, Dan Scholes, Dave Emanuel, HMS, Tatana, DJ Jaro, Yoyo Borobia, Ferry Tayle, 1&2 Productions, and Pull n Way. Equally impactful as an A&R, Prinz has shaped the careers of global artists while driving industry innovation. In the early 2000s, as national product manager for Steinberg, TC Works, Mindprint, Prosoniq, and Propellerheads, he championed and nationally marketed tools like NUENDO and REASON, revolutionizing production workflows. His leadership in music retail, publishing, and indie label ownership led to the creation of Offshore Music in 2004, where he signed artists like York and Aly & Fila, launching the FSOE sublabel to cement their global acclaim. As A&R for Sony Switzerland’s EPIC Dance, he drove high-profile projects. Prinz formed the Swiss pop-electronic girlband Pull n Way in 2016, co-producing tracks like "Let Me Fly" and "Inside Out." Emerging on Instagram, they became early influencers, securing brand deals with OPPO and others. Since 2018, as Director of A&R at Musikvertrieb AG (muve recordings), Switzerland’s premier independent distributor and label, Prinz has driven digitalization, amplifying artists like Luca Hänni, whose Eurovision hit "She Got Me" went viral, and signing synthwave artist Lazer Boomerang, whose "Time to Pretend" amassed nearly 100 million streams, predominantly in China, via TikTok and Bilibili. His A&R mentorship elevated Pull n Way’s hits "Anything" and "Memento," produced by Australian duo 1&2 Productions—whom he discovered early—with "Anything" breaking Swiss airplay charts. Artists like Tobias Jensen, WE ARE AVA, and CRIMER also thrive under his guidance, dominating Swiss airwaves. In 2021, he co-founded LIVANA MUSIC AG, a Swiss label and publishing company dedicated to electronic and neoclassical music, fostering talents like Chiara Dubey and Mané, and pioneering Web3-driven experiences and live events to establish LIVANA as a global brand. A respected thought leader, Prinz has spoken at events like "Mastering the Music Business" in Bucharest, M4Music, and Musiksymposium in Zurich, and was a co-founder of the politically motivated Swiss music association Musikschaffende, now SONART. For decades, he has represented his companies at global conventions like MiCannes, MIDEM, and ADE in Amsterdam, forging ties with Ultra Music Publishing, Cloud 9, ROBA Music Publishing, David Gresham Music Publishing, Sony ATV, Sirup Music Publishing, and other global players. Prinz leads innovation by embracing Web 3.0, cryptocurrency, open source, and AI, pioneering voice model licensing with DJ Fresh’s Voice-Swap.ai and leveraging blockchain to redefine music marketing and financing. His vision and creative consulting help international startups in music financing, Web3, and distribution establish a Swiss presence. Beyond music, Prinz’s passion for mentorship, marketing, and publishing shines, enriched by his love for literature and nature’s splendor—from sun-kissed shores to alpine peaks. Andy Prinz is a dual-force icon, blending production artistry and A&R vision to sculpt the sound and landscape of tomorrow’s music industry.
